BENCH AND BAR
Greetings Exchanged As yesterday morning’s sitting of the Magistrate's Court in Timaru was the last for the present year, opportunity was taken by Mr W. D. Campbell, on behalf of the legal fraternity, to extend the season's greetings to the Magistrate (Mr H. Morgan) and the members of his staff. Mr Campbell expressed to the Court and members of the Court staff appreciation of the consideration extended to members of the legal profession throughout a difficult year, and hoped that the blows now being struck by the British and Allied forces would soon restore international order and decency with the same respect for law and order as had prevailed previously. Mr M. Gresson endorsed Mr Campbell’s remarks.
The Magistrate acknowledged and reciprocated the greetings extended to him and his staff. He said that the war had resulted in additional regulations and emergency measures being issued, which had increased the work of the legal profession and the courts, but the good relations which had always existed had continued. The situation so far as the British Empire was concerned had changed for the better, and he, too, hoped that a lasting peace would soon come.
