Fairview Water Supply Scheme Loan Approved The application of the Council for authority to raise the balance of £lBO of the Fairview Water Supply District Loan, 1930, had been considered by the Local Government Loans Board and approved, reported the chairman (Mr T. B. Garrick) at a meeting of the Levels County Council yesterday. The Board had decided to recommend the Government to issue an Order-in-Council authorising a loan for a term of 18 years at 4 per cent, with a sinking fund of £4/2/- per cent, no interest or sinking fund to be paid out of loan moneys. “It is a job we ought to get on with at once,” said Mr Garrick. “The race may fall in any day. Whether we should start before we get the money I do not know, but I do not think we will have any trouble in getting it.” Financial Statement The financial statement showed that receipts since last meeting amounted to £lO6/17/11, leaving a debit, including £5OOO deposit at call, of £9243/1/8. Accounts for payment, which included the Harbour Board levy of £lBOO and the final payment to the Hospital Board, totalled £2645/12/11, leaving a debit of £ll,BBB/14/7. Permission for the Timaru A. and P. Association to conduct a motor camping ground at the Timaru Showgrounds was granted. On the recommendation of Mr J. Scott it was decided to write to the Automobile Association urging that a sign indicating the presence of the camp be erected. There was a danger, said Mr Scott, of accidents occurring as campers’ cars went in and out of the grounds. „ , v The engineer (Mr A R. Callander) was instructed to report on an application from Mr C. Poultney for the extension of water from the Seadown water race district to his property. Rural Housing The Local Goverment Loans Board advised that the Council's application for authority to raise a loan of £lO.OOO under the Rural Housing Act would be considered at the next meeting of the Board. x The South Canterbury Electric Power Board wrote asking the Council to appoint a responsible officer to instruct the Board’s engineer on requirements for an experimental or actual black-out in the council’s disTlie Council appointed the County Clerk (Mr G. B. Bird) with power to delegate authority to the Borough electrical engineer. Replying to an inquiry from the Council whether the presence of a subterranean water supply was an adequate supply within the meaning of the Act entitling exemption from charges under the Downlands Water Supply Scheme, the Minister of Public Works (Hon. R. Semple) advised that the matter was receiving attention. „ At the conclusion of the meeting seasonal greetings were exchanged.
