The Rev. J. C. Mackay, of Palmerston North, has accepted a call to the joint pastorate of the Otahuhu and Papatoetoe Baptist Churches. Mr D. R. Munro, who was injured in the level crossing accident at Washdyke some weeks ago, has made a good recovery, and has been discharged from hospital. The Rev. J. A. Asher, of Napier, celebrated his ministerial jubilee yesterday, having been ordained by the Presbytery of Southland at Gore on November 26, 1890. Dr. R. H. Dawson, who is at present on the staff of the New Plymouth Hospital, and who volunteered for military service some time ago, has receved advice to report for duty early in January. Dr. James Hight has decided to relinquish the position of Rector of Canterbury College from January 31 next, it was announced at a meeting of the Canterbury College Council. Dr. Hight will retain the Chair of History at the College. Dr. H. G. Denham was elected as his successor. The appointment of Mr Frank Cameron, manager of the Hawera branch of Messrs Newton King Ltd., as secretary and manager of Messrs Freeman R. Jackson and Co., Ltd., Wanganui, is announced. The appointment was made in view of the pending retirement, after 50 years’ service, of Mr F. Moffatt. Reference to the illness of the Borough Electrical Engineer (Mr A. E. A. Watkins) was made by the Mayor (Mr W. G. Tweedy) at a meeting of the Borough Council last night, when it was decided to convey to Mr Watkins the best wishes of the Council for a speedy recovery. Private I. M. C. Maclaren was met by members of the West End Bowling Club and made the recipient of a hairdressers’ companion. The presentation was made by the president (Mr C. J. Dewar) who traced Private Maclaren’s association with the club extending over a period of 10 years, during which he held the positions of committeeman, selector, secretary, treasurer and green supervisor. Messrs J. Gunn and H. W. Brownie also supported the president. Private Maclaren acknowledged the gift and thanked members for their good wishes.
