GREATER EFFORTS
Canadian Production Peak Soon By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright (Received November 21, 6.30 p.m.) OTTAWA, November 20. The Minister .of Defence (Mr C. D. Howe) in the House of Commons, said that negotiations had been completed for the construction in Canada of 18 large merchantmen for Britain. Reviewing Canada’s industrialisation in the last 14 months, he forecast that the production peak would be reached in the next eight months. He also announced the appointment of a Requirements Board to ensure priority of war needs, and added that the machine tools controller had banned the production of new models of vehicles, railcars, etc., to ensure that die tools production would not be diverted from munitions. Canada would soon be making practically every type of gun. Substantial tank production was expected early in 1941. Shell production was being increased to 2,000,000 monthly. Aero-engine production depended on whether the necessary machine tools were obtainable from the United States.
