Formal notification that M. Armand Nihotte, at present Consul for Belgium in New Zealand, has been appointed Consul-General, is contained in the Gazette. Lieut.-Colonel J. H. Will, N.Z.M.C., who went overseas with the 4th Field Ambulance (part of the First Echelon) has returned to Wellington. Mr George Leith, of the staff of the Ashburton Borough School, has been notified of his acceptance for duty with the Royal Navy and will leave Ashburton next Wednesday. Lieut.-Colonel D. H. W. H. Donaldson, N.Z.S.C., has returned to Wellington from Egypt. At the outbreak of war he was at the staff college, Camberley, and when the college closed he was posted for duty at the N.Z.E.F. Base, Cairo. The General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church at Palmerston North authorised the ordination as chaplain to the forces of Mr F. J .Green, a licentiate of the church. The Timaru Presbytery was instructed to ordain Mr Green. The High Commissioner for the United Kingdom in New Zealand (Sir Harry Batterbee) and Lady Batterbee, arrived in Christchurch yesterday. They Will leave for Dunedin on Monday and will be there for the following day. Sir Harry will return to Wellington for two days at the end of the week, but will rejoin Lady Batterbee to visit the West Coast. They will arrive at Westport on Monday, December 2, and will be in Greymouth on Tuesday, December 3.
