OTIPUA

MINIATURE RIFLE CLUB The annual presentation of trophies of the Otipua Miniature Rifle Club took place at a dance in the hall last week. The patron (Mr A. S. Elworthy) was the guest of the evening, and presented the trophies. Mr E. Hampton, captain, welcomed all present and spoke of the yearly activities of the club. In spite of the shortage of ammunition the club had enjoyed a successful season. He congratulated the club champions and the members of the D team, four of whom were first-year shots, who had won the “Timaru Herald” Shield, members who had won again the triangular F.O.P. Cup, and all who had won trophies, and the donors of trophies, being present once again at the club Mr Elworthy expressed pleasure at presentation. He always felt interested in the club’s activities, as he did in the doings of the Otipua district. He congratulated all the trophy winners and wished them all good shooting in the future. The trophies were then presented as follows: —Mr D. J. Tavendale’s trophy, J. Murray; Mrs McTague’s trophy, E. Hampton; Mr O. F. Bishop’s trophy, L. Jackson; Mr J. Newbiggen’s trophy, R. Barclay; Mr N. Bell’s trophy, G. Wilkins; Mr L. Richard’s trophy, H. Riddle; Mr Clark’s trophy, J. Hill; Mr H. Arden’s trophy, J. Bell; Mr W. Davison’s trophy, H. Riddle; Mr N. Jackson’s trophy, K. Bishop; Gunner Elan’s trophy, H. Arden; club trophy, W. Kinross- F.O.P. individual cup, H. Arden; Holme Station Challenge cup and miniature, B. Watson; runner-up, champiopshin, N. Jackson; B grade championship, C. Jackson; "Herald Shield”, J. Hill, H. Riddle, J. Bell, L. Murray, G. Wilkins. Card prizes during the evening went to Miss J. Arden and Mr R. Brown. Music for the dancing was supplied by Messrs F. and L. Hoare and McMillan. Mr W. Hoare was M.C. LATE MR T. HUGHES At a meeting of the Otipua Hall Committee, held last week, the chairman, Mr J. McKenna, referred to the untimely passing of the late Mr T. Hughes, who had been an active member for years and who had helped with all social activities in the district. Mr Godwin endorsed the chairman’s remarks and a motion of condolence was carried in sience.
