PRIME MINISTER IS CONTRADICTED

Regulation Resented By Many Unions By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, October 14. The executive of the Building Trades Federation, replying to the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser’s criticism of the resolution passed on Saturday, said Mr Fraser's references to Fascism and Nazism imply that building trade workers are not wholeheartedly opposed to these forces. This is refuted. Desiring unreservedly the defeat of Fascism, the workers believe that such methods as are contemplated in the latest Public Safety Emergency Regulation will not assist in its defeat. The executive contradicts Mr Fraser’s suggestion that the industrial movement fully agrees with the regulation. “At least 30 organisations have vigorously protested, and no amount of abuse can hide this fact.” The executive adds that Mr Fraser appears to resent opposition to the regulation because the Federation of Labour has not yet protested, and says demands have been made already that the Federation interview the Cabinet urging the repeal of the regulation. I The resolution referred to is as follows: “That this special meeting of building trade workers takes the strongest possible exception to the latest emergency regulations which give the Attorney-General power to control all trade unions and dismiss workers from their employment as a most flagrant attack on the free basis of our New Zealand democracy, and as such not to be tolerated by free men. As free men we pledge ourselves to resist to the utmost the implementation of these regulations. We herewith call upon the Government to at once repeal these regulations.”]
