PETITION TO HOUSE
Form of Presentation PRIME MINISTER RAISES POINT OF ORDER By Telegraph —Press Association WELLINGTON, Octobed 11. A petition for an increase in the allocation of petrol for motorists was presented in the House this afternoon by Mr S. G. Holland, who said he had to present a petition from James Roberts, president of the New Zealand Labour Party, and 31,467 others prayin'; for an increase in the petrol allowance. The Prime Minister rose to a point of order, t.nd said it was customary to mention the name of the first signatory and so many others. This had not been done on this occasion. He also suggested that many of the petitioners might not have known that they were signing, because a large number of signatures were detached from the printed form of the petition. The Speaker (Hon. W. E. Barnard) agreed that it was usual for the first signature of the petition to be mentioned, also a number of others which were attached instead of an Important signature being picked out for the purpose of, say, effect. The other point raised was of more importance in view of the fact that the petition did not comply with the Standing Orders requiring at least one signature to be attached to each petition form. The petition could be received, and he would draw the attention of the committee to the circumstances.
