Campbell sr., of Timaru, a former resident iof Albury. Between the items there i was dancing. Miss D. Connor gave a step dance and songs were given by Mr i Campbell. Betty Adams and Shirley ; Tinkler were responsible for the raisi ing of £2 3 - when, dressed as nurses they sang "Please Give Me a Penny.” A competition was held during the evening and the winners were: Mrs J Higgs 1. Betty Adams 2. Wilson Cox 3. Mr Doon 4, Miss D. Conner 5. Farm produce was sold, the auctioneer being Mr A. Munro, and from this effort the sum of £3 14/- was raised. It is expected that the net proceeds will be more than £2O. The music for the evening was played by Mrs R. Tinkler assisted by Mrs J. Campbell. Mr V. J. Sullivan was M.C. Thanks for the way in which the function had been supported were expressed by Mrs J. O’Neill, who spoke for the president, Mrs Wm. Brown, who could not be present. The response had been most gratifying, she said, and it was intended to hold a similar evening later. AORANGI HALL REPAIRS A start was made yesterday with the demolition of the parapet over the main entrance to the Aorangi Hall. This part of the structure was declared unsafe some months ago, and since early this year has been temporarily strapped to stop it from moving. The I brickwork is to be stripped down to the level of the sill of the big centre window, and will be replaced by woodwork. The repairs are being made by the trustees of the hall, although the Mackenzie County Council are the lessees. SKATING CONDITIONS Three heavy frosts have been experienced this week in the Fairlie district and conditions for the skating at Stoneleigh over the week-end should be good. The skating Is being held for the Lady Galway Guild’s funds, and the arrangements have been made by Mr and Mrs C. L. Mathias. It was to have been held last week-end, but conditions were not suitable. Yesterday’s frost recording in Fairlie was 21 degrees. DRY MONTH The weather at Albury during the last month has been cold and frosty. The rainfall so far has been negligible and moisture is needed to put the ground in good order so that spring work can be carried on to schedule when the frosts are lighter. ALBURY EUCHRE An enjoyable evening was spent at this week’s Lodge euchre at Albury. Miss P. Simpson wdn the women’s prize and Mr I. Simpson the men’s. Later there was dancing, for which music was supplied by Mrs R Tinkler.
