Greek business men throughout the country will give their gioss takings on Friday, June 28, to the National Patriotic Fund. Their committee of three, consisting of Mesrs S. N. Garland (Vice-Consul for Greece). C. Christie (president of the Greek community in Wellington) and A. Janis (president of the Greek Educational Asociation). last week made a comprehensive tour of the North Island. Travelling day and night, they visited Palmerston North, Feilding, Marton. Wanganui, New Plymouth, Hamilton, Rotorua, Whakatane, Opotiki, Gisborne. Wairoa, Napier, Hastings, and Dannevirke. Mr Garland said they were received most cordially everywhere, and every member of the Greek community agreed readily to co-operate in the scheme. No visit was made to Auckland as, said Mr Garland, there were no Greeks there. The few Greeks in the South Island agreed by correspondence with the proposal. It is expected that the fund will benefit by ab' ut £2OOO, and in addition, there were individual donations already made by Greeks in New Zealand.
