VALUABLE ARSENAL
Australian Munitions Production British Official Wireless (Received June 9, 10.0 p.m.) RUGBY, June 8. Details are now available of the extent to which the war effort of Australia is being increased by the expansion of the production of munitions and war material. British destroyers are using depth charges made in Australian factories and Australian bombs will soon be dropped on German targets as a result of the enlargement of the factories in Victoria. Rifles, small arms ammunition and machine-guns made in Australia are being used by the Australian Imperial Force in Palestine. by the forces of India. New Zealand. the Colonies and by services fighting in Europe. There are four Government owned arms factories in Australia. Before the end of the year one will be producing Bren guns. The Commonwealth also produces antiaircraft guns, armoured cars, military vehicles, rifles, machine-guns and every type of air bomb. Apart from munition production Australia is proceeding with a national war savings campaign aiming to reach £10,000,000 by the end of June.
