THREE LIVES LOST

River Steamer Capsizes In Rapid TRAGEDY NEAR PIPIRIKI By Telegraph Pres? Association WANGANUI, May 7. Advice was received in Wanganui late to-night that the river steamer Ohura overturned in a rapid four miles above Pipiriki late on Monday afternoon. The cargo of cattle was thrown into the river and it is feared that the engineer, R. Gray, and two deckhands, G. Ropata and Te Hori, were drowned. All three were married. Ropata had a family of eight children and Te Hori, a returned soldier, had a small family. Little was known of the disaster till a steamer went up the river from Pipiriki this morning and found the Ohura upside down and dead cattle floating down the stream.

The captain of the Ohura, Andrew Anderson and his nephew, a deckhand, managed to escape ashore.
