LEAD WANTED
Supplies of Clothing Materials United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received March 19, 6.30 p.m.) LONDON, March 18. In the House of Commons the Government was requested to give a lead to the retailers of clothing materials, because the whole emphasis in women's fashions was being placed on wool and the retailers were organising a wool week. Dr. Leslie Burgin (Minister of Supply) said a restriction of the home demand was constantly under consideration, but different issues were raised for different trades. He did not doubt that manufacturers and retailers of woollen clothing were aware of the position of supplies and were adjusting their programmes accordingly. Miss Ellen Wilkinson (Labour) suggested that it was Impossible drastically to curtail luxury expenditures, unless the Government gave a clear lead.
