FAIR TO FINE Special to " The Timaru Herald “ WELLINGTON, March <5. Winds—Sea breezes on the coast, otherwise winds light to moderate and variable. Weather—Fair to fine and mild. Seas—Slight. DOMINION FORECAST General Situation An anti-cyclone extends from New South Wales across the Central Tasman Sea on to New Zealand, while a weak depression is approaching the southern portion of the South Island. Forecast Winds—Moderate to fresh northerly to westerly from about Cook Strait southwards, elsewhere light to moderate and rather rough south of Farewell Spit, slight to moderate elsewhere. Eastern Tasman Sea—South-easterly winds in the north, variable in the central portion and north-westerly in the south, changing later to southerly in the last-named area; force mainly moderate, but strong at times in the south with rather rough seas. Weather—For the most part fair to fine but with scattered rains developing in the western and far southern districts of the South Island; cool tonight, with some light frosts possible, but milder to-morrow. TIMARU RECORDS Sun rose at Timaru to-day 6.13 a.m.; sets 7.04 p.m. High water at Timaru 1.17 a.m. and 1.38 p.m. PHASES OF THE MOON

SLIGHT FROST A slight frost was experienced yesterday, when 1.2 degrees were recorded. This is the second frost of the year. The sun shone from a cloudless sky and a cool sea breeze was In evidence. Records at Timaru Park yesterday were:— Max. temp.—6B.2. Min. temp, on grass—3o.B. Frost —1.2 degrees. Wind—N.W.3. Rainfall—.o4 inches. Rainfall to date this year—s.36ins. Rainfall to date last year—l,93lns. Sunshine—lo. 6 hours. Sunshine to date this year—426.4hrs. Sunshine to date last year—469.7hrs. IN OTHER CENTRES Christchurch: There was a clear sky and warm sunshine all day with a fresh easterly breeze. The maximum temperature was 60.5 degrees. The barometer at 7 p.m. recorded 29.95 inches and was falling. Geraldine: Although a south-west wind made Itself felt in Geraldine yesterday, the sky for the greater part of the day was cloudless. The evenings are beginning to grow chilly. Temuka: Yesterday was warm and sunny with a northerly wind. The maximum temperature was 66 degrees and the minimum 32. The glass was steady last evening. Fairlie: Yesterday was beautifully fine and sunny. Waimate (for the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. yesterday): Barometer, 29.4; thermometer, maximum 65.2, minimum 40.5; bright sunshine, 10 hours 36 minutes; wind gauge, miles run in last 24 hours. 127. Yesterday was sunny with a fresh breeze in evidence. Dunedin: The sun shone intermittently yesterday. The weather was calm and mild, the maximum temperature being 62 degrees. In the late afternoon a light breeze from the north-east prevailed, but it dropped again later. The barometer fell to 29.90 inches (1012 millibars).
