SOCIAL NOTES

Miss Todd, who has been staying with Mrs L. M. Inglis, Preston Street, has returned to Christchurch. Mrs S. J. Gordon, Christchurch, will arrive to-morrow to stay with Mrs C. H. Gresson. Selwyn Street. Mrs E. G. Temple, “Spree Farm." Geraldine, has been on a visit to North Canterbury.

Mr and Mrs Jasper Herrick, Hawke's Bay, are staying with Mrs F. J. Rolleston, LeCren's Terrace. Miss Rachel Rolleston, LeCren's Terrace, has returned from a visit to Wellington. Mrs J. C. Stephenson, Tokarahi, Otago, has return to New Zealand after a six months visit to Melbourne. Mr and Mrs W. Thomas, Te Weka Street, left yesterday to attend the Rotary conference, which will be held in Palmerston North this week. Mrs Limbrick, Lyndhurst, who has been the guest of her sister, Mrs Shaw, Grant’s Road, for the Ewart-Lunham wedding, will return home to-day. Princess Te Puca Herangi has been asked to represent the Maoris at the first general conference of the New Zealand Red Cross, to be held in Wellington on March 12 and 13.

Miss Jean Abraham, who has been the guest of her aunt, Miss Helen Denniston, Christchurch, following a visit to the North Island, has returned to Dunedin.

Among the guests at the Hermitage last , week were: Mr and Mrs R. H. Williams, Mr and Mrs R. D. Huynink (Malaya), Mr and Mrs A. Yagoupoff (Java), and Mrs and Mrs F. Pollard (Canada). The engagement is announced of Phyllis Marjorie, second daughter of Mrs and the late Mr J. McAuley, Waliti Road, Timaru, and James Maurice, fifth son of Mrs and the late Mr J. Howe, Parsonage Road, Waimate. Miss P. Lunham, who has been the guest of her parents, Gordon’s Valley, for the Ewart-Lunham wedding, returned to Wellington yesterday. Mrs Hall, Templeton, who was also their guest, will return home to-day. Miss Winifred Lloyd, of Reading, England, who is a member of the crew of the Finnish barque Penang, now at Auckland, has made many voyages under sail. She signed on as assistant sailmaker in the Penang before the barque left Middlesborough in July.
