POOR FIELDS IN ALL EVENTS By Telegraph—Press Association GISBORNE, February 24. The Waiapu Racing Club’s annual meeting was held at Ruatoria before a good attendance. Light rain during the second race had little effect on the track which was hard and fast. The totalisator handled £3957/10/- for seven races, compared with £6OBB for eight races last year. Results:— HACK SCURRY, Of £6O; 5 furlongs 2 Piriwai, 8.0 j I—Hunting Dawn, 8.0 2 3 Sweet Pal, 8.0 3 The only starters. Won by three lengths, four lengths between second and third. Time—lmin 3sec. PAKANUI HACK HANDICAP, Of £B5; 1 mile 1— Queen's Dream, 11.2 1 2 Mendelssohn, 9.10 2 3 Flying Comedy, 9.9 3 Also started: 4 Hunting Dawn 9.0.
Won by a long neck, two lengths between second and third. Time—lmin 45 l-ssec.
WAIAPU STAKES, Of £130; li miles 1— Small Boy, 9.2 1 2 Mendelssohn, 7.0 .. .. 2 The only starters. Won by a short head. Time—2min 6sec.
HIKURANGI HACK HANDICAP, Of £B5; 6 furlongs 1— Dutch Ace, 8.5 1 3—Perfect Lady, 7.12 2 2 Gay Laura, 7.12 3 Also started: 4 Waikawa 7.8. All fell with the exception of Dutch Ace. The second and third horses were remounted by spectators to get the minor platings. Time—lmin 21sec.
K. S. WILLIAMS MEMORIAL, Of £75; 7 furlongs 2 Colenso, 7.9 1 4—Show Day, 7.11 2 3 Ace Willonyx, 8.0 3 Also started: 1 Red Cockade 9.5 (fell), 5 Flying Comedy 8.9. Won by threequarters of a length, half a length between second and third. Time— Imin 29sec.
