Demand for Return Refused

Documents seized at the Soviet trade offices reveal operations far beyon ’ the scope of a trade mission’s functions, also close collaboration with German and Russian propagandists. Plain clothes men entered the offices at 9 a.m. and forced the safes with files. They met officials arriving and escorted them to their homes, which were searched. The Government refused a Soviet demand for the return of the documents and declared that the office ceased to enjoy immunity when tke Franco-Soviet trade agreement had lapsed. The raid was part of the operations against Communists throughout France.
