Mr F. J. Williams has retired from the position of Green Island Borough engineer after 33 years’ service.
Mr C. W. Hodge, formerly manager of the Taranaki Daily News, New Plymouth, has taken up the position of general manager of the Christchurch “Star-Sun."
The Dynes Fulton Scholarship of £lOO, tenable for two years at Massey Agricultural College, has been won by Ivan Porter, a pupil at the Hamilton High School. The scholarship will enable him to study dairy farming at the college.
The death occurred at Wanganui on Saturday of Mr T. A. Blyth, headmaster of the Ohakune District High School, after a short illness. He had a great record as a teacher and his ability to mould character was outstanding. Mr Blyth was also a keen mountaineer and he had the record of having climbed Mount Ruapehu 146 times.
Mr D. F. C. Saxton, who has been appointed managing-editor of the Taranaki "Daily News” has been editor of the paper since 1934, when the death occurred of Mr T. C. List. Mr Saxton is a past president of the Taranaki Chamber of Commerce, the New Plymouth Tw'enty Thousand Club, and the Taranaki Cricket Association, and is a member of the New Zealand Centennial Press Committee.
