Southland Rabbit Export
The success of the Southland export of frozen rabbits this season will depend on the amount of shipping space available. Rabbits for export have not been brought under the Imperial Government’s commandeer arrangements, and shipping space will not be made available specially for them, though there will probably be occasions when lots can be despatched without infringing on the space allotted to mutton. lamb and wool. The importance of the frozen rabbit industry to Southland (and the extent to which this farm pest has invaded the province) can be estimated from the statement that up to 50.000 cases, with an average of 30 skinned rabbits to the case, have been sent to England annually from the province.
