GERALDINE BIRTHDAY PARTY

MISS E. PIERCE HONOURED To celebrate the twenty-first birthday of their daughter, Evelyn, Mr and Mrs G. H. Pierce, Geraldine Flat, were hosts at an enjoyable party held at their home on Monday evening. The guest of honour was the recipient of many beautiful and useful gifts. During the evening dancing was enjoyed in the wool shed which was colourfully decorated with streamers and greenery. Music was contributed by Messrs W. Chapman, A. Lyall, W. Patrick and D. Smith, and a novelty dance was won by Miss Joan Palmer and Mr E. Pierce. After congratulations had been extended to Miss Pierce on reaching 21 years of age, Messrs W. S. Parr and J. Scott thanked Mr and Mrs Pierce for the delightful evening. On behalf of the guest of honour, Mr N. Palmer suitably replied. NEW FIRE SUMP A further fire spmp is now under construction in the business area at Geraldine opposite Morrison Bros.’ ' building and when completed will make the fifth sump now constructed in the main street. The sumps have been put in by the Borough Council at the request of the Geraldine Volunteer Fire Brigade and in the event of fire in these areas give a splendid supply of water for fire fighting. PERSONAL Captain and Mrs A. Black and family, Wellington, who have been the guests of Mr and Mrs E. N. J. Hannah, Macdonald Street, have returned north. Miss E. McCullough, Raukapuka, and Miss Nancy Brown. Woodbury, have left on a holiday visit to Wellington. The Rev. F. H. Wilkinson and Mrs Wilkinson, Timaru. are spending a holiday at Peel Forest. Mr E. J. Bolton, Nelson, is the guest of Mr and Mrs E. N. J. Hannah, Geraldine. Mi' and Mrs J. Stevens, Geraldine, who have been spending a holiday in Dunpdin, have returned home. “SOMETHING TO SING ABOUT’’ As dramatic and full of’surprises as he always is, but in an entirely new role, that of a popular orchestra leader who goes Hollywood. James Cagney is proving a sensation in his latest Grand National picture ‘‘Something to Sing About,” which will be screened at the Geraldine Municipal Theatre- to-night at 8.15. Playing opposite Cagney, is Evelyn Daw, a lustrous young girl with a superb soprano voice, who is making her first appearance on the screen. Mr E. Cholerton. Optical Specialist, proprietor of “Procter’s,” will be visiting Gsraldine personally on Wednesday, January 24. when he may be consulted on all defects of eyesight at the Crown Hotel.
