A FEW HINTS

If the cane in a chair is sagging, but otherwise in good order, soak it with very hot soapy water and place it in the sun to dry. The shrinking will effect a marked improvement. When clothes are yellow and grimy, make an emulsion of turpentine, kerosene, and lime-water in equal parts; shake until creamy, and use a cupful to a boilerful of clothes; keep over the fire for 30 minutes.

If a small onion and a small peeled potato (raw) is put inside a chicken before roasting, there will be a marked improvement in flavour. If you are troubled with ants in a cupboard, mix a six-inch flowerpot full of builders’ lime in half a pail of water. Wash the cupboard with this, and do not rinse it out for three days.

No breeze will be strong enough to blow starch out of clothing that is on the line, if a full spoonful of salt has been added to the starch.
