DOUBLE RISE CHAMPIONSHIP By Telegraph —Press Association WELLINGTON, January 18. At the trap shooting championships, the double rise clay target title went to H. Grennell (Port Levy) with 18 out of 20 birds. R. Cates (Tokomaru Bay) with 17 was second, and Malcolm. Dobson and Hough were third equal with 16. The breeze was from behind and made the targets fly quickly without much rise. The next shoot was a skeet sweepstake. the conditions being one round of 25 targets. There were 25 competitors. D. P. North (Whangarei) secured a straight-out win by breaking 22. He took first prize £8 '5/6. The runnersup were C. A. Thomasen (Waitakaruru)), J. Steven (Balclutha) and A. E. Robinson (Auckland). They each broke 21 and received £l/17/- each A second skeet sweepstake was more in the nature of a practice event for to-morrow when the 1940 Southern Hemisphere skeet championship will be held. There were 22 competitors and the prize money was divided between D. North (Whangarei). A. E. Robinson (Auckland) and W. A. Barnard (Palmerston North), who each broke 22 out of 25. The day’s shooting concluded with a single rise clay target sweepstake of 15 targets off handicap distances, shot on the five track system. There were 16 competitors. H. H. Morris (Wellington) secured a straight-out win by breaking 14 for which he received prize money amounting to £3/12/-. The other prize money was divided between C. A. Thomasen, A. V. Swanson (Hutt) and N. Swanson (Hutt), who each broke 13.
