FAIR AND MILD Specia l to “ The Timaru Herald" WELLINGTON, January 18 Winds—Light to fresh winds from an easterly quarter. Weather—Mainly fair and mild, but with the possibility of mist or drizzle developing later on the coast. Seas—Slight to moderate. DOMINION FORECAST General Situation While disturbed conditions continue in the extreme north of the North Island, an anti-cyclone still covers the New Zealand area, highest pressures being found in the far south. Forecast Winds—From an easterly quarter predominating, moderate to fresh in force north of New Plymouth and Napier, and freshening at Limes along the East Coast; elsewhere light or moderate. Seas (New Zealand waters)—Slight on the West Coast, moderate on the east. Eastern Tasman Sea—Moderate to fresh east to south-east winds and moderate to rather rough saas in the northern portion, light and variable winds and slight seas in the southern. Weather—Unsettled over the northern half of the North Island with scattered rain, more especially in the Auckland Peninsula; elsewhere mainly fair to fine but with the possibility of mist or drizzle developing later on the East Coast of the South Island; temperatures mild to warm. Sunshine to date last year—l3l.lhrs. IN OTHER CENTRES Christchurch: There was brilliant sunshine all day with a light breeze from the south-west. The maximum temperature was 70.2 degrees. The barometer recorded 30.1 inches (1019.3 millibars) at 5 p.m. and was steady. Geraldine: Yesterday was dull and warm with intermittent sunshine. Temuka: Yesterday was fine and sunny with a light easterly breeze. The maximum temperature was 78 degrees and the minimum 47. The glass was high and steady iast evening. Fairlie: Yesterday was overcast and sultry. There was a wind from the south-east. Waimate (for the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. yesterday): Barometer, 29.3; thermometer, maximum 59.0, minimum 69.2; bright sunshine, 8 hours 24 minutes; wind gauge, miles run in last 24 hours. 63.
