A clearing sale of superior household furniture and effects will be held to-morrow by Morton and Co. Ltd. in their mart at 2 p.m. A full list is in thin issue. The furniture will be on view this afternoon.

The attention of the public is drawn to an advertisement herein, to the closing of shops in Timaru, for the Christmas and New Year holidays. This is In accord with the Shops and Offices Act, and the awards and industrial agreements governing the different classes of business.

A popular shoppers' dance will be held on Friday in the Bay Hall.

Commencing at 1 p.m. to-day at 21 Maltby Avenue, A. N. Oakey and Co. will hold a clearing sale of superior household furniture, electrolux, tent and fly and good linen and blankets under Instructions from the trustees of the late Mrs Jane Cairns. The sale will be held wet or fine. Full particulars appeared in last Saturday’s “Herald.”

Estates of a value of £438,244 were reported and accepted for administration by the Public Trustee during the month of November, 1939. The total value of the estates and funds under administration by the Public Trustee on the 31st March, 1939, was £61,715,713, and the new business for the eight months ended 30th Novemthe eight months ended November 30 was £3,947,927. Grants of administration made by the Court in favour of the Public Trustee numbered 165 for the month. During the month 614 new wills appointing the Public Trustee executor were prepared on behalf of testators -->d lodged for safe custody, and 329 existing wills were revised to provide for changes desired by testators. The total number of wills now held in the Public Trust Office on behalf of living persons is 95,763.
