AN APPRECIATION
THE LATE MISS C. M. CRUICKSHANK (By E.R.M.) ■ Rest after toil. Port after stormy seas, Death after*life Doth greatly please.” These were the words that came ti our mind on hearing of the death o Christina Murray Cruickshank. Fo she lived a strenuous life. It was he: choice. She never .spared herself. And at last, the earthly tabernacle couic no longer cope with that ardent spirit Miss Cruickshank will chiefly be re membered as Lady Principal of Wan ganui Girls’ College, a position whicl she held with dignity and success fo many years. It is said that we get ou of life what we put into it. If that I so. Miss Cruickshank has had ful measure. What scores and hundred, of lives she has touched. Her spiritua children are a multitude. Their heart: are sad for her loss. We reap what w< have sown. She sowed bountifully. After her retirement Miss Cruick' shank lived for some years at Cashmere Hills, Christchurch, surroundec by the treasures that a life like her: cannot fail to win. love and honour “hosts of friends.” The occasion o: her taking a trip Home was to many t happy opportunity of showing theii affection and appreciation. They gave her a wonderful "send off.” Soon afte: her return her health began to caus* anxiety. She lay ill for many wearj months. But even then, she delightec in her many visitors, and her spirit her interest in affairs and her sense o. humour did not fail. And now she has gone to the lane of happy meetings, the land whosf querdon is rest. But will a personality so dynamic rest for long, or, rather b( like Sir Andrew of old? “Fight on. my men." Sir Andrew said "A little I’m hurt. but. yet not slain; I’ll but lie down and bleed awhile. And then I'll rise and fight again." We imagine her, although surrounded by heaven’s gracious airs of everlasting peace, still doing service, higher purer service, eager and joyous, freec from earth’s frustrations.
