The Rev. N. Wright and Mrs Wright, Branscombe Street. have returned from a visit to Auckland. Miss Barr, Wellington, who is staying with Mrs W. Thomas, Te Weka Street, will leave to-day for Dunedin. Miss Joan Turton, Geraldine has returned from a visit to Mrs L. Wilson, Mt. Somers. Miss Joan Holdgate is spending the holiday with her parents, Mr and Mrs T. E. Holdgate, Branscombe Street. Mr and Mrs W. Satterthwaite, Christchurch are staying with Mrs T. W. Satterthwaite, Elizabeth Street. Miss Joan Ritchie, who was the guest of Mrs D. Unwin. “Highthorne” has returned to Dunedin. Miss McKillip. Christchurch. will spend the week-end with Mrs F. S. Cave, Raymond Street. Mrs Webb is staying with her daughter, Mrs F. G. M. Raymond, BeverleyRoa d. Miss Lop Cartwright, Orbell Street, has been spending a few days in Christchurch. Miss Peggy Killick has arrived from Wellington to spend a holiday with her parents, Mr and Mrs E. A. Killick, Branscombe Street. Mrs Gerald Murray, “Glenmore,” Mackenzie Country, has returned home after a short visit to Mrs James Scort, Cannington. Miss D. Emslie, whose marriage is to take place shortly, will arrive on Monday to stay with Mrs J. M. Thomson, Brunswick Street. Mr and Mrs P. Rodgers, Palmerston North, will arrive in Timaru to-day and will be the guests of Mrs E. M. Arthur, ' “Strathdoon,” Trafalgar Street. The marriage of Miss Helena Clarke and Mr V. Ballard, will take place at James’s Church, King Street, Sydney to-day. Miss Clarke will be given away by her uncle the Rev. J. J. Gilmour. The engagement is announced and the marriage will take place next week at St. Mary’s Church, of Maynard, only son of Mr E. Mackay, William Street, and Joyce May. eldest daughter of Mrs I. Chappell, Hugh Street. Miss Mona McLean, Leeston, Mrs Booth, Greymouth, and Mrs N. Shipley, North Canterbury, are visiting Mrs A. B. Shipley, Rathmore Street, for the Shipley-Hunt wedding, which takes place to-day at Chalmers Church. The engagement is announced of Rosamond Averina, only daughter of the late Colonel Burchart-Ashton, and of Mrs Roger Mostyn, East Ferry Lodge, Balnacurra, County Cork, Ireland and Noel John, only son of Mr and Mrs W. H. Walton, Park Lane. The engagement is announced of Thelma (Billie), only daughter of Mr and the late Mrs A. J. A. Short of Christchurch and Sergeant Frederick George Stewart, elder son of Mr and Mrs Charles Lamb, “Elgin Downs,” Cave. A very enjoyable gift evening was given recently by the Kensington Methodist Ladies’ Guild, in honour of Miss Edna Webb and M’r J. Day, whose marriage will take place shortly. The evening was spent in musical and elocutionary items and games. Many pleasing and useful gifts were received. and a presentation was made on behalf of the Guild by Mrs Pope.
