WAIMATE THREE-ACT PLAY
Success Achieved Presentation by Repertory Society Last night and on Wednesday night, amateur drama of a very high standard was staged in the Olympia Hall by the Walmate Repertory Society. The production was "The Middle Watch," written by lan Hay and Stephen KingHall. The cast was a large one. The producer was Mr W. P. Black, the stage manager Mr J. C. Winning and the business manager, Mr F R. G. Aitken. The Walmate Orchestral Society provided music. Throughout, the play moved briskly, and no humorous point was mossed. The costuming was good, and ingenious arrangements expedited scene shifting. FRIENDLY SOCIETIES The half-yearly meeting of Ivy Lodge. U.A.0.D., was held on Wednesday, A.D. Bro. Deadmarsh, presiding. The balance-sheet and auditor’s report were adopted. A vote of thanks was accorded the secretary for the competent manner in which he carried out his duties since taking over the position. D.P. Bro. Mr David Barnes was a visitor to Waimate yesterday. Mr E. Rive, Wellington, is visiting Waimate. Mr W. Bishop, Dunedin, is spending the holidays with his parents, Mr and Mrs H. Bishop, Edward Street. Mr M. Jarvle has returned to Wafmate after a holiday spent in Dunedin. The Waituna Creek School Committee will hold a jubilee dance on December 28. The Hook Tennis Club will hold a dance on Saturday, December 23.
