NAZIS ARREST TRADE UNIONISTS
Onlted Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Rec. November 22, 8.45 p.m.) LONDON, November 22. The Amsterdam correspondent of the “Daily Telegraph” says the Gestapo arrested Herr Theodor Leipart, a former leader of the German Trades Union Congress, Herr Grassmann, Leipart’s chief lieutenant, also Herr Seitz, the former social democrat mayor of Vienha all of whom are septeuagenarians and who have carefully refrained from anti-Nazlsm. The arrests indicate that the Nazis fear the growth of organised resistance among the workers. The Amsterdam correspondent of the Exchange Telegraph Company states that the anti-Nazi campaign in West Germany is spreading. Under cover of blackouts, chalked inscriptions on the walls proclaim: “There will be no Hitler in December,” while small leaflets placed in letter-boxes say, “We want peace; we want freedom; we want no war; we want no Hitler.”
There was serious rioting in Carinthia last week, German troops intervening to restore order. There were many civilian casualties.
