CAMP AT CAVE
RIFLE BATTALION MOVES IN TO-DAY Officers and men of the 20th Rifle Battalion of the Special Force will have a busy day to-day, when nearly 800 troops will move to the canvas camn at Cave. An advance party, under Major F. E Dornwcll, travelled to Cave on Monday to make all preparations for the main body. This party, which included 16 pioneers, has erected about 150 t-nts for the men, as well as marquees and temporary buildings for use as cook houses and canteen. The battalion is to move in two trains, the first leaving Burnham at 9.50 a m. and the second at 10.20 a m. Times of arrival at Cave are 1.5 p.m. and 1.35 p.m. A rear party, consisting of one officer and 12 men. will travel by truck after inspecting the Burnham quarters to see that all has been left in order. The men will find all in readiness for them at Cave. In addition to their actual quarters and mess tents, there are marquees for recreation. The Church Army also has quarters. A post office lias been installed, and there are special facilities for telephone toll calls. The camp Is alongside the main road, and near the Cave railway station. The Tengawai River is nearby, and there are excellent facilities for swimming. The nature of the ground in the vicinity of the camp permits valuable training not possible at Burnham. Field training and field firing will be the main items in the training schedule. The Rifle Battalion will remain at Cave for two weeks, and will be followed immediately by the Machine-gun Battalion, which is to have a similar period of field training.
