RHODES SCHOLARS
SELECTION MADE By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, November 22. Messrs M. W. Speight (Auckland) and H. E. Garret (Lincoln College) have been selected as Rhodes Scholars. Mr Speight is a son of Mr and Mrs H. B. Speight, of Parnell, Auckland. He has had a fine scholastic career, which began at the Newmarket School. At Auckland Grammar School, of which he was dux, he won three memorial prizes in the Upper Sixth Form, and was top for New Zealand in the Junior University Scholarship examination. At the university he has had eight first-class passes for his B.A. degree, and was senior Greek scholar last year. On the sports field, Mr Speight was a finalist in the secondary schools tennis championship, and he has represented the university in this game, as well as in hockey, for which he has his New Zealand Uni- , versity blue. He is the present secretary of the Students’ Association, and a sporting contributor to the college magazine.
