WOMAN CHARGED
REMAND IN CUSTODY GRANTED By Telegraph —Press Association AUCKLAND, November 20. On her discharge from hospital this morning, Josephine Norton Laycock, who was found in an hotel bedroom with a neighbour, Francis Leonard Laurie, on November 6, both with their wrists cut, was arrested and later appeared in the Magistrate’s Court charged “that she did aid and abet Francis Leonard Laurie in the commission of the crime of attempting to murder herself.” Asking for a remand until December 4, Detective-Sergeant Walsh said that Mrs Laycock would be jointly charged with Laurie in respect of the same offence. Applying for bail, Mr Burt said his client had been in hospital since the day of the alleged offence. Detective-Sergeant Walsh said that she was not bailable as of right. If bail were granted there should be properly looked after. If remanded in some assurance that she would be custody she would receive medical attention if required. Mr J. Morling said that in view of the distress accused was under, he thought it best to remand her in the care of the authorities. Mr Burt said he would not press the matter, but he had thought she might go to her mother. The Magistrate granted the remand, remarking that accused should be kept in custody in her own Interests.
