WEATHER SOUTH CANTERBURY FORECAST
FAIR TO FINE Special to "The Timaru Herald" WELLINGTON, November 16. Winds—Moderate north to west winds. Weather—Fair to fine on the plains, but some rain probable in the Alps; mild temperatures. Seas—Slight. DOMINION FORECAST 1 General Situation An extensive anti-cyclone centred north-west of the North Island extends over the Dominion, but a disturbance appears to be forming west of the South Island. Forecast Winds—Moderate to strong northwesterly to south-westerly winds but gradually tending more north-westerly. Seas (New Zealand waters) —Rather rough north of Wanganui, otherwise slight to moderate but rising somewhat about Cook Strait and on tire west coast of the South Island. Eastern Tasman Sea—Moderate south-west winds and moderate seas in the northern portion, freshening north-westerly winds and rising seas in the southern. Weather—Some scattered rains in western districts ahd the far south, but the weather otherwise fair and mild. TIMARU RECORDS Sun rose at Timaru to-day 4.58 a.m.; sets 7.26 p.m. High water at Timaru 7.42 a.m. and 8.06 p.m. PHASES OF THE MOON
MAINLY DULL Apart from a few hours’ sunshine in the early morning yesterday was overcast with occasional light showers. A westerly breeze prevailed. Records at Timaru Park yesterday were:— Barometer —29.80. Maximum temp.—64. Min. temp, on grass—4o. Wind—W.2. Rainfall—Trace. Rainfall to date this year—l2.22ins. Rainfall to date last year—33.2Bm. Rainfal Ito date last year Sunshine—2.3 hours. Sunshine to date this year—l6B7hrs. Sunshine to date last year—lsBB.2hrs. IN OTHER CENTRES Christchurch: Yesterday was overcast and warm with a moderate southwest wind in the afternoon. The maximum temperature was 71.6 degrees. The barometer fell slowly to 1015 millibars (29.964 inches). Temuka: An overcast sky and a light easterly wind prevailed yesterday. The maximum temperature was 69 degrees and the minimum 45. The glass was rising last evening. Waimate (for the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. yesterday) : Barometer, 29.3; thermometer, maximum, 69.5; minimum, 50.0; bright sunshine, 9 hours; wind gauge, miles run in last 24 hours, 87. Yesterday was sunny and mild in the morning but later became overcast and showery. Rain set in at 6 p.m. Dunedin: Heavy rain fell early yesterday morning and clouds hung low over the city all day. No sunshine was recorded and temperatures were mild to cool, the maximum being 63 degrees. The barometer was steady at 30.05 inches (1018 millibars).
