tea And sugar affected Retail prices for most brands of tea advanced in Waimate yesterday from 5d to 7d per lb. Sugar went up a farthing to 4id per lb. In the case of sugar, it is stated that no shortage exists, and that arrangements have been made for adequate supplies to merchants. Additional supplies are promised for the jam-making season. WOMEN’S INSTITUTE MORVEN Mrs A. F. Sutherland presided over a fair attendance of members at the November meeting of the Morven Women’s Institute held on Wednesday afternoon. Motions of sympathy with Mrs Scott Sr., and Mrs W. Scott were passed. Mrs W. F. Hassall gave a comprehensive report on the Federation meeting held at St. Andrews. Final arrangements were made for the institute bay at the Waimate A. and P. Association’s show. Mrs E. Stokes’s talk comparing the early days of New Zealand with present times proved most interesting. A guessing competition was won by Miss C. Smillie. Other competitions resulted as follows: Jar of flowers, Mrs B. Powell 1, Mrs W. Hassall 2; bloom. Miss J. Meredith 1, Miss D. Wellwood 2; sweet made on saucer, Mrs W. Scott 1, Mrs H. Baker 2. CRICKET The draw for the competition matches in the Waimate Cricket Sub-Asso-ciation's competitions on Saturday is as follows: Waimate v. High School, at the School; Old Boys v. Morven, at Manchester Park; Tollers, a bye. The following team will represent Waimate against High School at Manchester Park: J. Liddell, E. Chapman, W. Miller, A. Guy, J. Guy, J. Balfour, D. Keyes, J. Smith, C. Richardson, A. Wilson, A. Carbls. SPORTS POSTPONED In view of unsettled weather conditions last night, the opening sports meeting of the Waimate Amateur Athletic Club was postponed until next Thursday, November 23.
