GERALDINE CAIN’S ROAD

Reconstruction And Sealing Tender Accepted A tender has been let for the sealing and reconstruction of Cain’s Road, which will link Geraldine with the new Main North Road at Rangitata Mr F. Langbein, District Highways Engineer, advised the Mayor of Geraldine (Mr D. C. McKechnie) to this effect yesterday. The tender has been let to Fulton and Hogan, who are carrying out the sealing and reconstruction of Packman’s Road which links Geraldine and Orari. Cain’s Road, which is six miles long, will be brought up to highway standard and will provide a picturesque detour through the Geraldine district. It is possible that the Geraldine-Fairlie highway will be sealed from the Geraldine Post Office to Crotty’s corner before next winter. Plans and specifications are now being prepared for this work. WOODBURY INSTITUTE A talk given by Matron Lindsay, of the Timaru Public Hospital, on nursing in other lands was the feature of the monthly meeting of the Woodbury Women's Institute. The speaker was presented with a shoulder spray at the conclusion of her talk by Mrs Turton. The president (Miss E. L. J. Davies) extended a welcome home to Miss R. Blakiston who has been away for some time. A sales table in aid of the Red Cross did a very brisk business. A comprehensive report on the Federation meeting was given by Mesdames Baker and Kennedy, who were thanked for their work in connection with the Bay. Each was presented with a bouquet. The specimen bloom competition for the Davies Cup resulted as follows:—Large blooms, Mrs Templeton 1, Mrs S. C. Chisnall 2, Mrs Rae 3; small blooms, Mrs Scotney 1, Mrs Rae 2, Mrs Scotney 3; cluster, Mrs McLeod 1, Mrs R. A. Dixon 2, Mrs Scotney 3. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses who were Mesdames R. A. Dixon, Baxter, H. Mallinson and Misses Gregan and Mallinson.

"MISS FIX-IT" Jane Withers heads the cast in “Miss Fix-it,” an entertaining picture which will be screened at the Geraldine Municipal Theatre to-night and tomorrow night at 8.15. “Miss Fix-it” affords Jane almost unlimited range for her talents. In addition to some of the most hilarious comedy, there is a tender, heart-warming quality to Jane’s performance. Featured in the cast are Gloria Stuart, Henry Wilcoxon, Helen Westley and Jed Prouty.
