FAST-RIPENING TOMATO A new variety of tomato which promises to ripen much earlier than many of the older varieties is reported by R. M. Wilson, of the Dominion Experimental Farm, Saskatchewan, Canada. As the plants are smaller they can be grown more closely than those of other varieties, he states. CATERPILLAR INV -SION The districts of -aint-Pol-de-Leon, Roscoff, and Morlair in Brittany, have been suffering from a plague of black caterpillars about an irch long. Millions invaded fields, streets and houses, xae inhabitants collected pailfuls of caterpillars for destruction. Many people suffered fron. swellings caused by contact of the insects with the skin.
