EMERGENCY PRECAUTIONS
COMMITTEE TO BE SET UP Steps are being taken to set up an Emergency Precautions Committee m the Geraldine district. At a meeting of the Geraldine Centennial Committee, the chairman (Mr J. Acland) said that most people were worrying about the unsettled situation in Europe and would • whether the Centennial Committee should carry on with its Work in the meantime. He though that it was better to carry on with the job. Referring to local activity, Mr Acland said that he understood the Mayor had been in communication with the Department of Internal Affairs and steps were being taken to set up an Emergency Precautions Committee in the Geraldine district. It is understood that the duties of the committee will be to co-ordinate and organise preparations for any emergency. Dennistoun. “MERRILY WE LIVE” Few comedies maintain the dizzy pace set by “Merrily We Live,” which will be screened at t’ 3 Geraldine Municipal Theatre to-night and tomorrow at 8 o'clock, or have the ability of creating such continuous laughter as evoked by :\s co-stars, Constance Bennett and Brian Aherne. Miss Bennett interprets the role of the darling of the Kilbourne family with commendable skill, m.-king the debutante both amusing in her wisecracking and tempestuous outbursts and appealing in her search for romance. Others in the cast are Billie Burke. Alan Mowbray, Patsy Kelly and Tom Brown. Mr W. B. Bland, F.8.0.A. (Hons.), F. (London), representing Procter’s, the Premier Opticians, Christchurch, will be visiting Geraldine, and may be consulted on all defects of eyesight at the Crown Hotel on Wednesday, September 6, from 9 a.m. to 3.30 p.in.
