Tiie discovery was marie by Mi ' N. McLean, a Public Works bull-douei ! Tiie body, which was found at high- . water mark, had no hair, and Hie feel | were missing. The features are said to be clearly recognisable. The woman appeared to be middle-aged. Ir is known that it was washed u): overnight with the tide, since the Public Works employees working on the Main Trunk Line. which runs beside the road, had not seen it yesterday. The police at Kaikoura have been informed and are investigating the possibility of the body being that of Mrs Patience, who disappeared from her home at Claverley some months ago. An extensive search has already ' been made by a party of police officers, a huge area of country being thoroughly combed and a big section ol beach was dug over by detectives.
