OBITUARY
Mil F. J. BARLOW By lelegraph Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, July 10. One of the oldest architects practising in the city, Mr Frederick John Barlow, ot 5, Euston Street, Sumner, died to-day. He was born in Christchurch 71 years ago. and after serving his articles established himself in ids profession in 1893. For some years before commencing practice. Mr Barlow gained experience in Melbourne and Geelong. Some of the principal works he designed and supervised were the premises for Messrs Dalgety and Co., Geelong, the Geelong Show Grounds and grandstand. and the Machinery Hall at the exhibition in Christchurch in 1905. Mr Barlow was a foundation member of the Canterbury Bowling Club, which elected him a life member some years ago. He served for some time as a member of the Sumner Borough Council. Of recent years he travelled abroad extensively. He is survived by his wife. KEV. FATHER OLEARY, S.M, By leiegraph Press Association CHRISTCHURCH. July 10. After an illness lasting eight months, the Rev. Father Mark O'Leary, a wellknown missioner of the Society of Mary in Australia and New Zealand, died to-day. Father O'Leary was born in Masterton in 1888 and was a brother of Mr H F. O'Leary. K.C.. Wellington, and. Mr J. O'Leary, of Timaru. In 14 years on missions to parishes throughout Australia and New Zealand. Father O'Leary became known as the most gifted preacher of his day. He returned to mission work early last year after seven years in the Nelsen parish, but ,his health broke down in October, since when he has been in hospital. He was educated at St. Patrick's College, Wellington, where he was outstanding as an athlete and footballer, and Meeanee and Greenmeadows, being ordained in December, 1914.
