FAIR AND MILD Special to “The Timaru Herald." WELLINGTON, June 22. Winds—North-easterly winds on parts of the coast, but otherwise northwesterly prevailing and strong at times inland. Weather—Fair on the Plains, showery in the back country; mild temperatures but becoming cooler later. Seas—Slight to moderate. DOMINION FORECAST General Situation A long series of westerly depressions is crossing the South Tasman Sea and southern New Zealand. Forecast Winds—Mainly from between west and north-west, but changing to southwesterly at times In parts of the West Coast of the South Island, force moderate to strong generally and rising to gale force in a few exposed positions. Seas (New Zealand waters) —Rather rought to rough on the West Coast and about Cook and Foveaux Straits, slight to moderate inshore on the East Coast. Eastern Tasman Sea—Moderate to strong westerly winds with a temporary change to south-westerly advancing across the southern portion; seas rather rough to rough. Weather—Changeable in and west of the ranges and in the far south with occasional showers, otherwise mainly fair to fine, temperatures moderate in the west and mild in the east. A light easterly wind in the morning changed to a north-westerly in the afternoon. The maximum temperature, 52.9 degrees. The barometer at 5 p.m. was rising slowly. Geraldine: Yesterday w'as fine and warm. Temuka: Yesterday was fine ana sunny with a light easterly breeze. The maximum temperature was 52 degrees and the minimum 28. The glass was rising last evening. Waimate (for the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. yesterday): Barometer, 28 0; thermometer, maximum, 51.0; minimum, 38.0; frost, 3 degrees; rain, 6 points; bright sunshine, nil; wind gauge, miles run in last 24 hours, 39. Yesterday was sunny and mild. Dunedin: The misty weather of the last few days cleared completely yesterday morning when there were a few scattered clouds in the sky and a light frost in parts of the city. The sun shone brightly during the day. The temperature reached a maximum of 53 degrees in spite of a slight southerly breeze. The barometer was steady at 29.35 inches with a rising tendency towards evening.
