Oddie. C. E. Thomson, A. J. Allport. I. Hay, i R. Wilson. A. H. Williams, A. A. Wake- | field, W. R. Webb. J. J. Clemens, W. : Sutherland and J. W. Lennon. Mr Mason extended a welcome to the Rector of the Boys’ School, Mr A. G. Tait, who was present by invitation. 1 The delegates to the Central Jubilee I Committee, comprising representatives of the Old Girls and Old Boys’ Associations, the Board of Governors, the : principals of the two schools, reported that a further meeting had been held | and a tentative programme drawn up. This was the subject of further disi mission by the executive, and a suggested programme, to be submitted to a general meeting of old boys for its approval, was agreed upon. If approved by the general meeting this programme will then be referred back to the Central Jubilee Committee. Further discussion also took place regarding the date for the functions, and it was again decided to support the Easter. 1940, proposal as being the most suitable. It was stated that the Olympic Oak won by J. E. Lovelock would be planted during the jubilee celebrations. The annual re-union will be held at an early date, reported the president, and this would be combined with the special general meeting to discuss the proposed jubilee programme. A small sub-committee was set up to make all the necessary arrangements. Replies were received from the Old Boys’ Football, Swimming and Cricket Clubs expressing thenr willingness to join in a combined Old Boys’ ball. A sub-committee comprising representatives from the sports clubs and the association is to be set up to control the function.
Mr Oddie reported that the balance of the cherry trees had now been planted at School Park and the Drive comprised some 150 trees. A pale pink colour had been selected and should be particularly effective with the dark green pine trees as a background. It was hoped that old boys would inspect the work done and see for themselves the possibilities the scheme offered.
A report from the Combined Secondary Schools Old Boys’ Association stated that, for the benefit of junior members of old boys’ associations, it had been arranged with the Centennial Exhibition authorities to purchase tickets for the exhibition on the instalment plan. An old boys’ centennial ball would be held in Wellington on March 1, at which it was hoped to meet many representatives of secondary schools overseas.
