Current Comment

•Judging by the picturesquely hostile comment in certain American papers it would almost seem I hat the luck less English runner Sydney Wooderson has undone some of the good of the recent Royal visit, by complaining fhal he was bumped by a rival in the Princeton invitation mile race in which he ran last. 'rhe referee held that there had been “an unfortunate accident,” but further than that he would not go. W'ooderson’s personal protest has caused the open ing of floodgates of journalistic wrath. “The English do not need any help in defeating themselves,” wrote one critic. “They have got what it lakes Io wind up losers.” Then there was the forthright statement by another writer who disposed of (he suggestion that there might have been team work against Wooderson by declaring that any of the American milers would not hesitate to spike his mother “if the old lady got in the way of his winnitm.” It does seem difficult Io keep international sport in its right perspective.
