DOES MARRIAGE PAY?
Sir, —Allow me to congratulate my friends "Cupid" and “Mlsogamist” for challenging my call. Although they are married and have fought hard and won through, still that is not my idea of married life. I thank “Cupid” for his ! diagnosis of my matrimonial budget. He has certainly placed the 20 per cent, cut on the bare necessities of life. However, we are more concerned about the Import restrictions to-day, so beware "Cupid” or you will lose most of your £2/9/- a week "play-money.” “Misogamist” says that he has succeeded “somehow,”, but. if he were to start out to-day in that prehistoric fashion I am sure the better half he refers to would r probably think twice. It is a hard enough struggle for a single man to pay his way and give himself the necessities of life without casting himself into the depths of a hard and wearisome matrimonial struggle to come to the surface, have a peep, and be thrown back into the continual worry and responsibility governing such lives. For the information of “Misogamist,” I think I am placed in the same category as a man and not as a sentimental fatalist. I have my independence and have no worries, financially or otherwise. If I did have the misfortune to lose my £5/10/- a week I could still smile and look forward in confidence to the future. Any unfortunate circumstances which may arise will be looked upon by me as knowledge gained, not by “fear,” which holds a definite grip on many married people to-day.—l am, etc., ELIGIBLE BACHELOR. Geraldine, June 20.
