BALL AT MAUNGATI

Mr W. Smith’s granary presented a very animated scene when the bachelors and spinsters of Maungati held their annual ball. The granary had been beautifully decorated by members with green and gold streamers, balloons and greenery. The Grand March, in which 40 couples took part, was led by the joint secretaries, Miss Hilda Eggleton and Mr lan Stewart. During the evening Mrs H. Kent (Timaru) entertained with humorous recitations. Mrs Irwin was the winner of a guessing competition. Winners of the novelty dances were—Benedicts’ lucky spot waltz, Mr and Mrs C. Ward; lucky spot one step, Miss Nancy Harvey and Mr Campbell; Monte Carlo waltz, Miss B. Cairns and Mr D. Squire; balloon dance. Miss C. Tozer and partner. Music for the dancing was supplied by Mr M. Cameron and Mr L. Pelvin, extras being played by Mrs J. Coulter and Mr C. Coulter. Mr D. B. Neale was Master of Ceremonies.
