SHEEPFARMERS’ MEETING
GATHERING AT MASSEY COLLEGE
INSTRUCTIVE PROGRAMME This year’s annual meeting of sheepfarmers at Massey College sees a particularly interesting, instructive and valuable programme brought forward. Those who hope to attend are reminded of the dates of the meeting, June 7, 8 and 9. It is on June 10 that the Manawatu winter show opens. To finalise the publication of proceedings, a fee of 10/6 will be charged this year, but Young Farmers will be admitted at a reduced fee of 5/-. The charges cover the whole three days of the meeting. On the opening morning, the control of secondary growth on hill country comes up for discussion, with Mr E. Bruce Levy as speaker. In the afternoon an account will be given of the New Zealand Wool Publicity Committee, by the chairman, Mr H. M. Christie. Thursday afternoon will be spent at Longburn freezing works and promises to be specially enlightening. Blocktesting of fat lambs will be demonstrated by Dr C. P. McMeekan, who has worked under Dr Hammond at Cambridge. Mr R. L. Timbs, Wanganui, will gtVe an address and demonstration on chilled beef. That evening at the college the meeting will hear four speakers on the need for introducing a super grade for fat lambs. On Friday morning a seasonable topic will be dealt with by Professor G. S. Peren, research upon foot-rot in sheep. The meeting concludes at 12.30 on Friday, the final subject being an' account of the beef testing department’s work this year by Mr R. Waters, of the college.
