NEW VAUXHALL “14”
MODEL WITH A WIDE APPEAL The Vauxhall “14” of past years has been a very popular car in New Zealand. Now, comes the natural successor to this car—a ”14’’ that is bigger and roomier with even livelier performance and an all-important economy factor of 30 miles to the gallon with ordinary driving. The car is new in almost every detail and at the same time it follows accepted Vauxhall practice. The engine, of course, is valve-in-head, developing considerably more power than the previous motor for the same petrol consumption. The wheelbase is “4” longer and the result of this is a bigger body with more seat width and greater leg room. The body is of all steel integral construction which has already been so succssfully used on the Vauxhall “10” and "12”. Lockheed hydraulic brakes are now fitted on the new “14” and there is an entirely new torsion bar type independent suspension. Not only is the, car changed greatly in its mechanical design and in its appearance, but it also has many new features that contribute to the comfort of the driver. Th’re is, for instance, an adjustable steering wheel, It i, a simple matter to adjust the steering wheel to whatever height is most convenient. There is a luggage trunk with a capacity of eight cubic feet and the lid of the trunk pulls downward to make a tray for addiional luggage if desired. The adjustable front seat ha-, no solid base, it consists of springs resting on a foundation of horizontal coiled springs stretched between tubular frames. Arm-rests on both front doors are also adjustable both for height and for angle. There is a centre folding arm rest in the rear seat, ash trays in front and rear compatments, and no less than eight pockets or cubby holes for the storage of parcels, odds and ends and similar items. Finally, there is a very simple jacking system—the convenience of which every motorist will appreciate.
