Faulkner, president of the i Waimate Branch of the Women’s ; Division of the Farmers’ Union prei sided over a large gathering in the | Savoy on Thursday evening, when the ) annual social was held. | Mrs W. Buchan (South Canterbury president) spoke of the work accom% ! plished by the Waimate branch and | outlined the aims and objects of the ; Division. Mr John Dempsey (president of the Waimate Branch of the Farmers’ Union) and Mr George Dash (Mayor of Waimate) also spoke. During the evening Mr A. B. Struthers (secretary of the South Canterbury Executive of the Farmers' Union) gave songs, self-accompanied. | The ventriloquism of Mr W. Buchan, I whose conversation with his “ani- ! mated companion” was mirth provoking and skilful, proved popular. Further items contributed during the evening were: —Miss G. Palmer (pianoforte solo), Misses J. Hooper, Sadie Hayman and Mr A. J. Hoskins (songs). Miss M. Sanson (recitations) and a play presented by the Hook Division. The presentation of prizes won during the season was made by Mrs F. Mcßae as follows:—Miscellaneous, Mrs E. Meredith 1, Mrs Preece 2. Specimen bloom, Miss Barnett 1. Mrs E. Meredith 2. Decorative, Miss E.
