IF WAR SHOULD COME
BRITAIN IN STRONG POSITION Warning By Lord Nuffield Ready To Meet Any Contingency United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, May 31. “If any nation wants to fight, now is the time,” declared Lord Nuffield, who was a guest at the New Zealand Society luncheon. « “I cannot conceive that anybody would be so foolish as to generate a war at this moment, but I am able to reveal that Britain is ready to meet any contingency,” he continued. “I only hope, after September's lesson,
that we preserve such a strong position that we are able to prevent other countries from molesting small people.” Replying to a tribute to his gifts to New Zealand by the High Commissioner for New Zealand (Mr W. J. Jordan), Lord Nuffield said: “If I had not done what I have, I would have been lacking in what I should have done for my fellows.” Lord Nuffield revealed that he was going to New Zealand for the seventh time, as soon as possible. Mr Jordan announced that Lord Nuffield had accepted membership of the society with the words: “Yes, I feel almost a New Zealander.”
