Mr J. A. Eaton, of the composing staff of the “Poverty Bay .Herald,” has retired after 50 years’ service with that paper. Rev. T. W. Vealie last week celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of his ministry. Mr Vealie entered the Methodist Episcopal American Church for five years, 45 years being spent in New Zealand. Dr. G. Graham Russell, port health officer at Auckland, retired on Wednesday. He will be succeeded temporarily by Dr. J. Watson. A London message states that Lieut.-General Sir Clive Liddell has been appointed Governor end Commander-in-Chlef of Gibraltar. In succession to General Sir W. Edmund Ironside, who becomes Inspector-General of Oversea Forces.
