8.8. C. NEW FEATURE PROGRAMME Minister’s Warning to Dictators Changing Attitude In Germany Less Hostility To Church British Official Wireless (Received April 19, 5.5 p.m.) RUGBY, April 18. A new feature programme, devoted to international understanding, is announced by the British Broadcasting Corporation. The intention is to break down the barriers of language and custom which separate the peoples, by emphasising the everyday things which unite them as well as the ideals and problems common to them all.

The programmes will involve extensive travel in foreign countries by BBC producers with a recording unit. FORCE REPUDIATED STRONG STAND AGAINST AGGRESSION British Official Wireless (Received April 19, 5.5 pan.) RUGBY, April 18. The President of the Board of Education (Lord de la Warr), speaking at Edinburgh, said: "There is no hostility or bitterness in this country against the German people, but there is a spirit of determination to prevent further aggression, which any wise nation will hesitate to challenge.” English and Welsh Roman Catholic prelates have ordered special prayers for peace, also the reading in all churches of a statement denouncing rule by violence in the world, and warning members of “certain secret societies which are among the causes of unrest that they will incur excommunication.” This is taken to refer to the Irish Republican Army. Less Hostility To Church The Vienna correspondent of “The Times” says: “The persecution of Catholics has decreased since the Pope’s election.” Cardinal Innitzer ordered the churches to celebrate Herr Hitler’s birthday, ring the bells and fly the swastika.

GERMAN WARSHIPS SAIL FORTY VESSELS LEAVE PORT DURING NIGHT United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright BERLIN, April 18. Forty German warships sailed during the night from Kiel, Emden and Wilhelmshaven. They will meet in the vicinity of Heligoland or in the Atlantic. No details are available. The Government warships which, it has been announced, will carry out manoeuvres off the coast of Spain, will call at Cadiz, Algeciras, Malaga, Ceuta and Tangier between April 27 and May 1, and at Ferrol, Arosa Bay, Pontevedra, Vigo and Lisbon between May 6 and May 10.

The Government has allocated £84,000 to the Ministry of Education for the commemoration of the 115th anniversary of the French Revolution.
