TARANAKI REJOICES
RAIN FALLS ALL DAT By Telegraph—Press Association NEW PLYMOUTH, April 19. The heaviest rain that has been experienced in Taranaki for many weeks fell throughout the province to-day, and gave much needed relief to pastures. The fall began about daybreak and did not cease throughout the day. The last rain of any ’.onsequence was early in March. RELIEF IN OTHER PARTS By Leleyrnr'C • WELLINGTON,, April 19. Wellington to-day enjoyed the first substantial rainfall since March 10. The rain began shortly before midnight yesterday and continued intermittently all day. An officer of the Meteorological Department, said this afternoon that rain had begun to fall steadily in Taranaki before midday. It had been raining all day in parts of the Westland, Nelson and Wellington provinces. Little rain had so far fallen in the Wairarapa, though there had been some in Masterton. At midday rain was falling in Dannevirke and Napier, and a thunderstorm Jn Palmerston North about 3 p.m. would bring further rain. The fall in Wellington continued till 6 a.m. There had been further rain from 10.30 a.m. to 11 a.m. and from 12.30 p.m. there had been a steady fall. The recording to 4 p.m. was 34 points. Since March 10, when 75 points of ram had fallen, there had been only six small falls totalling 19 points. There appeared to be a definite break in the drought over the whole Dominion. It was expected that enough further rain would fall to relieve the desperate position in many districts. The position hi the Wairarapa should be greatly improved. The last substantial fall .34 points) had fallen there on March 10, the total for March being only 74 points.
